History

The Palakkad District Police Department  Employees Co-operative Society Ltd.,P 1021 was registered on 22.7.1993 under Co-operative Societies Act-1969 and started functioning on 2.8.1993  after the inauguration and first General Body meeting.It was presided by  Sri. R Viswanatha Pillai IPS, the then Superintendent of  Police Palakkad.  The share capital of Rs. 50/- accepted from 44 members making a total of Rs. 2200/- was the initial working capital of  society.  Initially 11 members were assigned as temporary Board of directors for six months. The  first director board meeting was held on 5.8.1993.  Official inauguration was conducted on 8.11.1993 by the  Hon.Minister for Co-operation Sri. M V Raghavan and housed in Police department building near district Police Office Palakkad.

Sri. R. Viswanatha Pillai IPS  the Superintendent of Police Palakkad and Sri. C Sreedharan Unni Reserve Inspector AR Camp Kallekkad were elected as Ex-Officio President and Honorary  Secretary in respective positions.  Sri. Sreedharan unni  retired from service on 30.9.1994 and  Sri. Sreedharan ,Reserve Sub Inspector was taken  the charge as Honorary  Secretary

  Sri. U.N. Natesan IPS was the Last Honorary President of the Society and the first President from the  elected body was Sri. C. Balakrishnan

Lending loan of Rs,.. 20000/- as non-agricultural  mid term loan(NAMT) on 30.10.1993  was a milstone in society aids.

After the establishment of this Society the election for board of directors was held on 16.7.1995 at Armed Reserve Barrack Kallekkad and first elected body came on to chairs. The ex-officio President and Honorary Secretary   were Sri.  Y. Anilkumar IPS  the then Superintendent of Police Palakkad and Sri.  C. Balakrishnan  respectively.  The president was not from the elected body as per by-laws of that time.  Sri. C. Balakrishnan  served as Honorary secretary till 21.5.1999,  when Sri. K. Bineshkumar appointed as the paid Secretary of the society.  In the election conducted on 13.7.2003, new Board of directors took charge and elected Sri. V Aravindakshan as president of the Society .He continued his position with a consecutive two time tenure.  This board of directors dismissed on 27.2.2018 as per the Co-operative Arbitration court order and appointed Sri.  Shanmughan  P   (   Asst. Registrar of Co-operative Societies )  as administrator . The election to the Board of Directors held   on 24.6.2018 and   13 member  new director  Board came into power on 29.6.2018.  The new Board of directors convened  a meeting  on 29.6.2018  and being elected   Sri. Kumaran. P as President of the society and Sri. Rafeek N   as Vice President.                                                                                             

Presently providing loans and financial aid like MTL up to ten lakh ,Self loan upto 2 lakh, Pay security Advance(emergency loan) upto one lakh and the seasonal loans like Education loan and Festival loan upto 25000/- and 30000/- respectively.  Additionally various savings schemes like Fixed deposit,SB A/C Recurring deposit, MMBS (CHITTY)  are  also notable. Society also holds two consumer store one at Armed Reserve camp Kallekkad and another at DPO COMPLEX PALAKKAD.Both stores are running smoothly.Providing uniform articles at a reasonable rate.Moreover got  distributorship of Bharath Petroleum Corporation for LPG and commissioned on 31.12.1997..  Since then distributing liquefied Petroleum Gas to members and having a customer population of 2082.Besides a NEETHI MEDICAL STORE is run by society at kunnthurmedu on police control room premises.The members and the public can purchase medicines at marginless rate.

     As on 31/03/2017, being well placed in a comfortable zone of competitive banking business world with an overall deposit of Rs.53,05,40,061/- (53 crore 5 lakh 40 thousand sixty one )  and loan outstading Rs 52,97,63,053/- (52 crore, 97 lakh 63 thousand and fifty three) and Rs.1,42,09,380/- (1 crore 42 lakh 9 thousand 3 hundred and  eighty only) as share amount from total of 6019 members. Now  running smoothly with a working capital of Rs 55,48,86,365.25 ( Fifty five crore forty eight lakh eighty six thousand three sixty five and paise twenty five only)  and categorized  as “CLASS I -Society”  The Palakkad Police Society as contributed much to uphold lively hood of Police personnel and Ministerial staff profoundly. we could place ourselves among the competitive banking business because of the sincere and dedicated hard work of employees. The society make use of modern technological aids and equipped with all necessary infrastructure meant for easy banking. We look forward for technology based solutions for the customers.
